Danau Sentani is a lake located in Papua, Indonesia.

Danau Sentani is under slopes of the Cyclops Mountains Nature Reserve has an area of approximately 245,000 hectares. Stretched between the beauty of Danau Sentani and Jayapura Kota Jayapura regency, Papua.

Danau Sentani is referred to as the largest lake in Papua. Not surprising really, because the lake has an area of aproximately 9,360 hectares and is located at an altitude of 75 meters above sea level.

in this lake also there are 21 small islands which adds to the beauty of Danau Sentani. Sentani meaning of the word is "here we live in peace." Sentani name itself was first mentioned by a Christian pastor BL Bin when carrying out this mission in the area of the lake in 1898.

This lake has been organized into a tourism object because within 50 kilometers of jayapura and easy to reach, as a complement in the lake there are many tourist boat to get around Danau Sentani.

This lake also held in the Danau Sentani Festival (FDS) to attract tourists. Danau Sentani Festival is usually held in mid-June each year, FDS itself has been established as an annual festival and entered in the main tourism calendar.

The festival is filled with traditional dances on a boat, a war dance typical of Papua, traditional ceremonies such as the coronation Ondoafi, and serving a variety of typical culinary Papua.

Danau Sentani Festival Carnival followed by the whole community in Jayapura and Jayapura City.

Of each community both from outside Papua and Papua himself who participated in these performances featuring traditional culture, traditional dances to the accompaniment of folk songs.

This festival is evidence of maintenance of unity among tribes, races, religions. Nationalism is very thick interwoven among, given in Papua consists of hundreds of small tribes who sometimes clashed easy.

Danau Sentani is also used as a tourist location for swimming, boating, diving, fishing, water skiing and culinary tours.

Fish diversity

In this lake there is a diversity of freshwater fish, about 30 species of fish and four of them are endemin Danau Sentani namely catfish Danau Sentani (Oxyeleotris heterodon), rainbow fish sentani (Chilatherina sentaniensis), rainbow fish red (Glossolepis incisus) and sharks saws (Pristis Microdon).
